CONNECTING LAND WATER + SKY
A selection of 12 paintings by Laurence Cummin
These works are primarily inspired by my 2024 field trip to Outback Queensland, with a few pieces based on drawings from an earlier trip to Western Australia. The paintings that don’t directly depict water instead capture the flow patterns it creates during the wet season.
For me, the connection between land, water, and sky is more than just a natural cycle—it’s the foundation of my artistic expression and a reflection of my deep love for the environment.
When land takes up the positive space in a composition, it engages the senses—it can be touched, smelled, and heard. In contrast, the light reflected from that space feels less tangible, but to me, it is just as real. Both the physical and the intangible aspects of a place shape our memories of it. This body of work explores that idea.
