Janine Good – Shared Space
In Shared Space, artist Janine Good explores the ways human connection shapes our experience of the world. Her paintings draw on moments of collective interaction – whether at race days, music performances or through cultural storytelling – inviting viewers to reflect on the energy, rituals and emotions that unite people.
Earlier in her practice, Good depicted landscapes devoid of human presence, a reflection of her early hearing loss and the social isolation it created. With the advent of hearing aids, her world opened to sound and conversation, transforming both her perspective and her art. Themes of inclusion, communication and shared experience now underpin her work.
From the vibrant spectacle of racing fashions to the Cannibal Creek: Seasons of Change series inspired by the Eastern Kulin Nation’s Indigenous Seasonal Calendar, Good celebrates the diversity of communal spaces and the stories they hold. Her music and abstract works further explore rhythm, light, movement and the endurance of nature, revealing a sensitivity to both human and environmental resilience.
Through bold colour and narrative composition, Shared Space invites audiences to step into a world where art becomes a meeting point – a place to connect, observe and belong.
