Mary RAPHAEL
Deep Outback
3 April - 3 May 2014
Mary Raphael was born in Northern Greece and came to Australia as an older child with her family. Her love of art was encouraged under her mother’s influence and Mary continued to pursue various creative avenues to discover where her artistic passions lay.
Mary has completed many creative courses during her life, including Design, Pottery, Painting, Floristry, Jewellery Making and Window Display.
After completing a 3 year Course in Project and Design at NMIT Mary has consistently been involved with painting and Art Projects.
All of the knowledge gained throughout her studies has contributed to Mary’s skill as an artist. Travel and her environment have continued to be strong influences on her work.
For many years Mary owned and ran a very successful florist shop while continuing to travel and create artwork. From 2007 to 2009 Mary lived and worked in Darwin becoming a member of the Territory Craft-Tactile Arts Group, a membership that has continued since then.
Her artwork is strongly influenced by her travels however her subjects are painted from memory, not from photographs. Mary uses her intuition to create her art.
