Aldo BELLEMO
My adopted city of Melbourne, where I have lived for over fifty years, is evolving not only demographically but also physically. New buildings are erected; old buildings are demolished; some are iconic and have a story to tell. That's where I come in to show that story and give some sense to that landscape. I work from sketches done in situ, photographs, and preliminary studies. I research the significance of the buildings and how they are placed in their immediate surroundings; and then I place a solitary figure to give a sense of place. These figures are neither bitter nor ironic. Instead they are comfortable in their place. The city of Melbourne will be my inspiration for many years to come.

Sally DARLISON
New York, a place that has either memories or familiarity for many of us. A place that has been photographed, filmed, visited and dreamed about by so many. My work is made up of a combination of images that depict the New York of my memories. Slightly muddled buildings, water towers, fire hydrants, fire escapes, towers and taxis - all part of the NY experience.

Faye DE PASQUALE
My inspiration is drawn from a visit some time ago to outback Australia. The heightened colour, vast expanses and patterned forms seen there, offer me the freedom not found in suburbia, or for that part, not found in country Victoria where I have lived prior to moving to Melbourne 10 years ago. I came to realize I had discovered inspiration that could occupy me for a life time.

The Mask Collage Series has its origin in a studio flood. Several large paintings being damaged. While storing the damaged canvases the colour, texture and vibrancy of the paintings inspired me to use them to create new work, thus the collage series evolved. The faces are not worked over, or painted on, rather cut directly from the original canvas, building textural layers of colour and form, giving the series its unique quality.

Colour, patterns, textures & movement are at the core of all my memories. As we move through time & live our lives, elements & particles of where we have been & what we once were travel with us as our ‘dark matter’- that invisible but vital force that gives us our layers. I have expressed this in a mildly erotic manner to stir passion & memories in the viewer – the physical and emotional entwine with time & our life’s path creating a world that is uniquely us. These works continue my exploration of life, death and renewal, and here I express my interpretation in the abstract and surreal.

Gina MILLER
I want my work to be expressive, spontaneous and experimental, even though I may start with a realistic picture in my mind. I love using a variety of materials and media: paint, inks, crayons & collage papers. My first marks are quite accidental brush strokes without conscious thinking or planning in the realm of the sub- conscious mark making. The ongoing dialogue with the painting begins once I start to overlay the various mixed media, then the composition unfolds. I like using bold contrasting colours and I experiment with textures hoping to pull the viewer into the emotion of the painting through movement, rhythm and colour. The painting is finished when it radiates energy and intensity. My paintings are of my inner psyche and come to me like dreams.

The Nuevo Apacheta (new apacheta) are inspired by the forms and colours of the ancient and contemporary cultures of Latin America. The practice of using complimentary colours in their traditional textiles and architecture continues today throughout Latin America. If you look, you will see the use of "high visibility colour" in Australia too.

Modern birds as we know them evolved from the dinosaurs. Towards the end of the Mesozoic period there existed a host of feathered, ‘bird like’ dinosaurs. These are my inspiration today, ranging from fossils to the amazing array of colours, shapes and forms to the vast variations of birds that now exist worldwide.
Looking back to another civilisation, the Egyptians have inspired a series of etchings based primarily on the ‘Cat’ who was worshiped and mummified according to the law of the day.
