Nudging Abstraction to Figuration
... and masking the rest
1 - 24 June 2017
This exhibition illustrates my continuing interest in colour and form as expressed through the distinctly different styles of abstraction, both geometric and biomorphic, and figuration. These stylistic and formal concerns are put to the service in a range of themes drawn from either the urban or the rural environment. Three main themes predominate: the grid-like patterns formed by city-layouts; masks and the unpredictable and potentially contentious interaction between figures in any assembled group; and finally, the landscape and its power to resonate emotionally with the viewer.
