Work #6 ‘Western Port #1406’
Oil and marble dust and wax on canvas H107cm x w107cm $1850.00
This painting embodies what Warren Nichols is aiming to achieve with this body of work. There is a strong, deep build-up of colour which is achieved by applying layer upon layer of different coloured glazes over a carefully placed ground of marble dust and wax. Once Nichols has achieved the desired finished colour, he then rubs back the surface to reveal glimpses of the texture below.
The finished work achieves the artist’s aim of conveying one of the many moods of Western Port Bay, while still maintaining an essentially abstract genre.
‘Western Port #1406’ looks at the inky depths of the water at night, with just glimpses of light flashing across the surface. It is easy to get ‘lost’ in this work, with more to see with each viewing.
Warren Nichols will be in the gallery this Saturday afternoon 16th April, from 2.30 – 4.00pm to discuss his works – all welcome.
Warren Nichols ‘Western Port’ will be exhibited in our gallery until Saturday 30 April
