This is a more subtle rendition of Ferguson’s work, but no less striking.
This painting is more muted than his usual vibrant mix of intense colour. However it still possesses strong contrast between the main area of ochres and sand tones and the just the right balance of the stronger blue with touches of mauve shapes, symbolizing what look to be bodies of water in an arid landscape from an aerial perspective.
Punctuation is added with touches of burnt orange, black, red and pale blue which help lift the painting.
The mark making and layers, within the work, tells the story, as it does in all of Ferguson’s works.
What I enjoy about this work is its sophistication of design without being slick; it’s a work of which one would not tire.
‘My Dream Time and Spirit of Place’ will be closing this Saturday, It is well worth a visit to see these wonderful paintings.
