Tony Jackson, Forest Glass (no 8, digital print on portfolio photo rag, 112 x 220 cm, $3300 (ed of 9))
A swarm of mysterious gems fly through the forest glade. They swirl around a tree trunk, dive down, and soar again, dancing ethereally, floating towards an unknown destination.
The blurred background of the verdant forest demonstrates Jackson’s knowledge of creative processes whereby the manipulation of the camera settings produces abstracted and atmospheric effects. The smooth, sparkling lozenges are borne out of the artist’s own imagination and digitally introduced into the photographic image.
Both layers are melded together distorting the boundaries between the real and the imagined. The sharp focus and the upward surge of the enigmatic pellets against the abstracted woodland imbue the work with the feeling of movement and energy. The bright yet harmonious colour schemes arrest the eye and draw the viewer to this intriguing work of art.
The exhibition is current until Saturday 2 August 2014.
