The works are all from our current exhibition Natural or knot by the Basketmakers of Victoria, the exhibition will be on display until 25th October.
Work No.12 Feathers and Fanfare by Colleen Bright. This work has a very tribal feel, the artist has used fruit tree pruning, found objects, wood and bales of twine to create a tall ‘teepee’ shape which is open part of the way to reveal hanging ‘treasures’ inside. This is a strong work which commands attention, making it fascinating to view from afar and draws you in for closer inspection. |
Work No.23 A Touch of Autumn by Margaret Donald. The artist has used dyed raffia, paper ribbon, Watsonia and linen thread to create a joyful little vessel made using traditional coiled work. The colours of aubergine and green evoke Autumnal tones beautifully and a touch of Lurex in the threads adds a hint of glitz. |
Work No.17 Tangled Knot by Jeanette Carter. This wall piece uses a combination of wire, Cordyline and seagrass to create a loose flower like shape and takes basketry away from its traditional format. The work offers an alternative type of artwork to hang on the wall. Although fragile in appearance, this work is cleverly designed to hold its focus and shape and casts wonderful shadows in the right light. |
