Exhibition Opening: Thursday, 9 July 2015, at 6pm.
QUADRANT GALLERY presents DIVERSITY: Art from 3 angles, an exhibition of recent paintings, works on paper, and contemporary furniture by the leading Gippsland-based artists Christine COCHRAN, Keith GRAHAM, and Angi THOMAS.
Christine COCHRAN is a painter, printmaker, and founding director of The Serigraph Gallery in Neerim South. She has exhibited regularly since the 1970s, and her works have been acquired by prominent public and private collections in Australia and overseas. Cochran’s paintings in the exhibition reflect her love of travel and interest in experimentation with the mixed media: “The sculptural forms of Antelope Canyon had to be painted. Surfaces touched by light are accentuated using copper leaf. The use of metallic paint and leaf highlights colour, texture and light, which subtly change throughout the day, giving another dimension.”
The award-winning sculptor and furniture designer Keith GRAHAM has co-founded The Serigraph Gallery with Christine Cochran. His furniture pieces focus on the implementation of natural and found materials: “Timber – under that bark, a beautiful and enduring material to play with. Both the delicate and the strong, functionality and design, combine with the use of rare and recycled materials.”
Angi THOMAS has been exhibiting regularly since the early 1990s. Her landscape paintings are distinguished by exciting textural surfaces and an innovative use of mixed media materials: “These works are my response to the light, colours, scale and power found in the Wimmera landscape through the seasons.”
