Graeme MYRTEZA, "Broken Dreams" (no. 15, oil on canvas, 60 x 150 cm, $2,800)
Graeme Myrteza’s landscape paintings are distinguished by their vibrant colour palette and lusciously textured surfaces. They convey the atmospheric clarity of evanescent vistas, the contrasting effects of sunlight and shadows, as well as the rugged terrain of the Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary. “Broken Dreams” is one of the very few paintings to feature vestiges of human presence. The romantic ruins of the crumbling homestead are juxtaposed against the limitless expanse of the mountainous landscape meditating on the transience of human existence and the permanence of nature.
The exhibition is current until November 12.
