This week we are drawing your attention to a selection of delightful landscape studies by Donald Ramsay from his current exhibition, “Watching the River Flow”. Measuring only 25 x 20 cm each, and priced at $480, these sharp little works give us an insight into the artist’s creative processes. Mainly painted en plein air and in situ, these small landscapes capture the atmospheric essence of the Yarra River embankments. “Sunset III" (no 37), for example, is remarkable for its vibrant interplay of light and colour as the setting sun sets the quiet landscape aglow in sparks of blues and purples. The single-point perspective draws the eye into the very depth of the composition. The thick rich impastos of energetically brushed-in pigments create a vibrant surface of shimmering textures.
The exhibition is current until Saturday, November 22. View the exhibition online at http://www.quadrantgallery.com.au/donald-ramsay.html
