Craig Harrison’s Aerial Streetscape Patters are an ultimate expression of the contemporary Geometric Abstraction. Initially inspired by the simplified grid of the urban streetscape design, they enliven the map makers’ rectangular shapes and perpendicular lines with a multitude of colours that veer from bold contrasts to subtle tonal shifts. Photographs alone cannot do these works justice. Though they faithfully relate the rhythmic energy that pulsates through Harrison’s bold patterns, these paintings deserve to be seen in the flesh, for it is only upon close examination that the artist’s complex layering of pigments, exquisite surface textures, and the subtle gradations of the colour palette reveal themselves.
The exhibition is current until 27 September 2014. View the exhibition online at http://www.quadrantgallery.com.au/craig-harrison.html
