Closing This Week:
Craig Harrison Colour My World Until Saturday, 27 September 2014 View the Exhibition Online http://www.quadrantgallery.com.au/craig-harrison.html ![]() #15 Craig Harrison, Back to Brack on Bourke, Graphite on Fabriano Paper, Width: 115 cm Height: 86 cm, $4200 Contrary to many of the bold and colourful works in Harrison’s current “Colour My World” exhibition – Back to Brack on Bourke stands out due to it being composed in tones of graphite alone. This work satisfies my inner obsessive compulsive nature, as each structured fragment can be categorised within a group or layer defined by shape, shade, form and plane. The work draws in the viewer, as if by closer inspection one could strip back the elements to see into the depths of the work. I have seen others in the gallery with their nose almost touching the glass for a closer look! This inspection reveals the complexity of layers and the wealth of detail. Suddenly, my gaze reveals further surprises -in as many as five silhouettes softened and concealed within the layers of this startling piece. This discovery serves as the subtle reward that is present in Craig Harrison’s work. The exhibition is current until 27 September 2014. Basketmakers of Victoria: Natural or Knot on Saturday, 4 October 2014, 2 - 4 pm Exhibition is current 2 - 25 October 2014 Exhibition Highlight of the Week: Craig Harrison “Aerial Streetscape Patterns 3” (no 3, oil and acrylic on canvas, 61 x 61 cm, $2,400)
Craig Harrison’s Aerial Streetscape Patters are an ultimate expression of the contemporary Geometric Abstraction. Initially inspired by the simplified grid of the urban streetscape design, they enliven the map makers’ rectangular shapes and perpendicular lines with a multitude of colours that veer from bold contrasts to subtle tonal shifts. Photographs alone cannot do these works justice. Though they faithfully relate the rhythmic energy that pulsates through Harrison’s bold patterns, these paintings deserve to be seen in the flesh, for it is only upon close examination that the artist’s complex layering of pigments, exquisite surface textures, and the subtle gradations of the colour palette reveal themselves. The exhibition is current until 27 September 2014. Cresina worked with Quadrant Design Architects as an Interior Designer and with Quadrant Gallery as an Administrator for over 3½ years. She had a potent intellect, charm, humour and great all round skills. Her work with us became her brilliant career. We have lost a very special team member who was instrumental in setting up our lovely gallery. Cresina will be greatly missed. Our heartfelt condolences to her most loving family. |
