Complementary 3 - 26 September 2015 Exhibition Opening: Thu, 3 September, 6-8 pm. Opening remarks by Gordon Morrison, Director, Art Gallery of Ballarat Closing this week:
Don't miss your last chance to see the beautiful exhibition of recent paintings, drawings, pastels, and watercolours by Joy BRENTWOOD and Ian PASCOE, "Pigment and Pen". On view at the gallery until Saturday, 29 August and online at http://www.quadrantgallery.com.au/ Exhibition Highlight of the Week: Joy Brentwood "A Pop of Pink" (no 33; $590); "Daisy, Daisy!" (no. 46; $720); "Hollyhocks" (no. 49; $720).
"My artistic journey has taken me along a wonderful path and in many different directions. Originally watercolours of flowers were a source of inspiration and still fascinate me, as there is so much to see in one beautiful bloom... I delight in magic of watercolour and love experimenting with the magical effects of watercolours on unusual supports such as Yup paper and canvas." The exhibition is current until August 29. View the exhibition online at http://www.quadrantgallery.com.au/joy-brentwood.html Exhibition Highlight of the Week: Joy Brentwood - "Autumn Vintage", "Shea-Oak Secrets", and "Sunset Soon" (nos 39-41, oil pastel on sandpaper, 21 x 26 cm, $620 each).
"In my art, colour and light are everything. I strive to create kaleidoscopes of colour and love developing subtle combinations of opalescent hues. I am fascinated by the quality of light in landscapes as it filters through trees and falls on grass, leaves, and flowers. I have recently fallen in love with oil pastels. When used on a ground of black wet-and-dry sandpaper, they create a jewel-like vividness and intensity." The exhibition is current until August 29. View the exhibition online at http://www.quadrantgallery.com.au/joy-brentwood.html Exhibition Highlights of the Week: Ian Pascoe - "Feed Me!" (no 2, $720); "Just Posing" (no. 9, $650), and "Just Leaving" (no. 12, $650).
Ian Pascoe’s love of local flora and fauna is reflected in his drawings and watercolours of waterbirds and honeyeaters. It was reignited after his move to Philip Island. The artist works mostly in Indian ink with freshly gathered and made reed pens. The reed pen is a relatively blunt instrument, each pen having its own unique characteristics and unpredictable behaviour. This has the advantage of allowing the artist to choose the pen that best suits his purpose, although it is rare for a reed pen to last more than one or two drawings without wearing out. The exhibition is current until August 29. View the exhibition online at http://www.quadrantgallery.com.au/ian-pascoe.html Joy BRENTWOOD AGRA and Ian PASCOE
