THREE PAINTERS
28 June - 21 July 2018

CLIVE SINCLAIR

My watercolours are contemporary but hold a romantic quality through them, I try to catch the simplicity in my art work of design and abstraction with an Asian feel. I am an exhibiting member of The Twenty Melbourne Painters Society which is having its 100 year exhibition this year. TMP is a very famous exhibiting group of some of Australia’s most prestigious painters over the past 100 years of Australian art. It is a pleasure to be exhibiting with two very fine painters who are both friends and members of the Twenty Melbourne Painters.

MAXWELL WILKS

As an Artist I paint many different subjects as you will observe from my work in this exhibition. Utrillo on a Silver Sea and Deserted Beach are such variations in subject matter including the medium used. I think they are both exciting subjects.
The painting 'Venice Morning' shows movement and colour compared with a gentle and subtle painting such as 'Summer Afternoon' once again showing extreme variation in style and subject matter. I think the variety of subject matter and atmosphere together with the use of different mediums make for an interesting exhibition.

PETER SMALES

My art is fixed firmly in the visual world and paint is the medium I have chosen to express myself.  Taking Paul Cezanne’s dictum that art is a return to nature, but not to be taken at face value.  Art, artifice, artful – the word implies a contrivance and selection.  The four sides of a painting, not found in nature, impose all the conventions that have been adopted by artists over time – the two dimensional decorative abstract and colour possibilities.
